Common Code Violations
Overgrown Vegetation, Trees and Weeds
The property owner or tenant is required to maintain their property free of overgrown weeds and vegetation. Trees should be properly pruned. This includes the public right-of-ways adjacent to the property such as the tree lawn area along the street, the side of the yard, and the backyard area along the alley.
Vehicles, including boats and motor homes, that are considered abandoned include those that are without a current license plate or registration, damaged extensively or severely deteriorated, or have not been moved or attended to in over seven (7) days.
Domesticated animals should be kept in a fenced yard. Dogs must be licensed in town and must be leashed in public. Animal noise, including barking dogs, should be kept to a minimum to avoid disturbing neighbors. Animal waste must be cleaned up regularly.
Work Without Permits
Structural, mechanical, framing and insulation, exterior, and plumbing work requires a town building permit. Electrical work requires a state permit. Demolition of any structure also requires a permit. Please call the Building Inspector at Town Hall for assistance. Penalty fees are assessed for work started without first obtaining a permit.
Debris and Trash
The property owner or tenant is required to maintain their premises free of junk, debris, trash, litter, waste tires, and scrap building materials. This includes the area in the public right of way.
