Board of Trustees Communication

The Mancos Town Board would like to extend our appreciation to citizens offering feedback with regard to parks and weed management within the Town limits.

We have made great progress with regard to the Integrated Pest Management Plan (IPM) adopted in 2015. In the past 3 ½ years, we have accomplished the following goals:

  • Cottonwood Park is being managed organically to control Class A & B noxious weeds. We expect to see immediate results, as well as larger long term results within a few years.
  • All town owned properties and rights of way that do not contain grass, including but not limited to GMC Lot, Skate Park, Pioneer Plaza, Hwy 184/160 corners, are being treated with Avenger Weed Killer, which is an OMRI approved product.
  • We are constructing a park and playground on the north side of Town which will be managed organically from its inception to allow citizens their choice of playground.

We take your concerns very seriously and we have researched this issue. We contract with a licensed vendor when herbicide is applied to the park, and products used are approved by the EPA. We post notices well in advance of any treatment, organic or not, at both Cottonwood and Boyle Parks to allow citizens the choice to stay away from these locations as long as they personally feel it is necessary.

We are committed to continuing to work toward the ten year goals in the IPM, and we will continue to keep citizens informed of our progress.
