ADMINISTRATOR’S MONTHLY UPDATE

for the TOWN BOARD OF TRUSTEES and the MANCOS COMMUNITY

October 2016

This Monthly Update is a supplemental report for inclusion in the Town Board of Trustees agenda packet, distributing to the community, and for posting on the Town website. It is for informational purposes. Items herein may or may not warrant Board of Trustees discussion, and do not require action unless noted on the meeting agenda.

 NOISE REMINDERS

The town asks for your assistance in keeping Mancos quiet. Please be cognizant of your neighbors and any additional noise you may be creating. Town Hall is hearing from residents about barking dogs, jake braking of trucks, loud mufflers, and the continuous use of power tools and other equipment. If you have a concern about noise issues in your neighborhood please contact Town Hall. Outside of office hours, please use the dispatch non-emergency line to call in noise complaints at 565-8454.

WORK CONTINUES ON WASTEWATER TREATMENT PLANT

Engineering firms and contractors that worked with the town to design and install the new MSABP technology at the new wastewater treatment plant have been in Mancos the first week of October. The goal of their visit is to ascertain the functioning of the plant and determine what, if any, additional improvements are required to ensure that the plant’s treatment technology is being fully utilized. Solutions being explored include installation of a bar screen for pre-treatment and separation of inorganic matter that is in the waste stream, increased aeration to assist with mixing of the effluent stream, and new operator procedures.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED TO SERVE ON TOWN BOARDS AND COMMITTEES

The Mancos Town Tree Board, Trails Group, Historic Preservation Board and the Design Review Board are in need of new members. The Tree Board meets monthly and makes recommendations to the town on trees to prune or remove, plants new trees, and holds an annual Arbor Day celebration. The Design Review Board meets once per month, and is responsible for reviewing exterior improvements (including signage) in the Commercial and Highway Business Districts. The Mancos Trails Group is a volunteer group that focuses on increasing the quality, quantity and awareness of trails in the Mancos Valley. The group worked hard this summer on improvements to existing and new trails in Cottonwood Park. Interested residents may contact Town Hall and complete a Board Member Application. For more information about these committees and their functions, please visit the town’s web site: www.mancoscolorado.com or contact Town Hall today.

 2017 BUDGET TO BE INTRODUCED

Staff and elected officials are working diligently to put together a manageable 2017 Operating and Capital Improvements budget that reflects the priorities of the Mancos community. Since August, workshops have been held to discuss projected revenues and expenditures. The Town Administrator will introduce the budget at the October 12 meeting. By law, the Board of Trustees must adopt the 2017 Budget by December 15. The public is invited to all workshops and regular meetings to provide input on town projects and programs.
