ADMINISTRATOR’S MONTHLY UPDATE

for the TOWN BOARD OF TRUSTEES and the MANCOS COMMUNITY

November 2015

This Monthly Update is a supplemental report for inclusion in the Town Board of Trustees agenda packet, distributing to the community, and for posting on the Town website. It is for informational purposes. Items herein may or may not warrant Board of Trustees discussion, and do not require action unless noted on the meeting agenda.

MANCOS OLDE FASHIONED CHRISTMAS

The town and our partner organizations in Mancos are planning a month of community holiday celebrations. A “Festival of Trees” will take place all month long in Boyle Park, where decorated Christmas trees are on display. Events begin on Friday December 4th with a Rudolph Fun Run, holiday tree lighting and a visit from Santa. Kids will enjoy treat bags from the VFW Auxiliary and a holiday movie at the Community Center following photos with Santa. On December 11th, town staff and elected officials will prepare and serve a free holiday dinner to the Mancos community from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the Community Center. There are many more events happening throughout the month of December. A schedule of events can be found at Town Hall or online at www.mancoscolorado.com or www.mancosvalley.com.

NOISE REMINDERS

The town asks for your assistance in keeping Mancos quiet. Please be cognizant of your neighbors and any additional noise you may be creating. Town Hall is hearing from residents about barking dogs, jake braking of trucks, loud mufflers, and the continuous use of power tools and other equipment. If you have a concern about noise issues in your neighborhood please contact Town Hall.

MAIN STREET BRIDGE REPLACEMENT

The Main Street Bridge, built over one hundred years ago, is in need of structural repairs and potentially a full replacement. Town staff is seeking funding through the CDOT Off-Highway Systems grant funds, which would cover up to 80% of the cost of project, if awarded. Goals of the project are to make this critical piece of the town’s infrastructure and transportation system structurally sound, improve flood zone risk, and to include pedestrian and bicycle lanes or walkways. The bridge will be designed by professional engineers and, to the greatest extent possible, it will be designed to fit with the unique historic character of the downtown area.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED TO SERVE ON TOWN BOARDS AND COMMITTEES

The Mancos Planning and Zoning Commission, Town Tree Board, and the Design Review Board are in need of new members. The Tree Board and the Planning and Zoning Commission meet monthly and the Design Review Board meets twice per month, unless there is no business to discuss. Interested residents may contact Town Hall with a letter of interest. For more information about these committees and their functions, please visit the town’s new web site: www.mancoscolorado.com or contact Town Hall today.
