ADMINISTRATOR’S MONTHLY UPDATE

for the TOWN BOARD OF TRUSTEES and the MANCOS COMMUNITY

March 2017

This Monthly Update is a supplemental report for inclusion in the Town Board of Trustees agenda packet, distributing to the community, and for posting on the Town website. It is for informational purposes. Items herein may or may not warrant Board of Trustees discussion, and do not require action unless noted on the meeting agenda.

NEW CONSTRUCTION PROJECTS AND BUSINESS CHANGES

The Mt. Lookout Grange is working with Mancos Food Share on an addition to their existing facility at the northeast corner of West Grand Avenue and Spruce Street that will include a commercial kitchen and area for a food pantry to serve the community. This project is in process and framing is underway. Building and site work is also in the works at the new Riverwood RV Resort, located at the east side of town off of the 160 Business Route (Grand Avenue). The 68-space resort will include a community building with laundry facilities and an on-site manager’s suite. Developers have received permits from CDOT, the US Army Corps of Engineers, and the Town of Mancos. The site will be tied in to town water and sewer infrastructure. The resort plans to open for business in May. Alpacka Raft, a local company that designs and manufactures inflatable personal rafts, is in the process of moving to their new facility at 192 S. Main Street (the “old hardware store”). They hope to open a retail storefront in Mancos in addition to continuing online and wholesale sales.

AGENCY CONTRIBUTIONS-SPRING CYCLE

The town invites area non-profit organizations to submit an application by April 15 for the second cycle of 2017 agency contributions. These mini-grants range from $500 to $1500 and are awarded to organizations that provide benefit to Mancos residents. For more information, please contact Heather Alvarez at town hall, or visit https://mancoscolorado.com/government/agency-contribution-information/. Organizations that received funding in January for the first cycle are: Medicine Horse Center ($800), Hospice of Montezuma ($750), Mancos Food Share ($420), Mancos Senior Center ($1,500), Axis Health Systems ($1,000) and School Community Youth Collaborative ($530).

NEW LOCATION FOR RECYCLING BINS

Four Corners Recycling Initiative, an area non-profit organization that coordinates recycling efforts in Montezuma County, is moving the recycling bins currently located behind Mancos schools to a new area behind the Mancos Performance Center on Riverside Ave. The recycling center provides free drop off services for cardboard, paper products, plastics and metals. FCRI reminds the public to break down all cardboard and other items to maximize space and to not leave items outside of the bins if they are full.

TRAILS COMMITTEE VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

The Town is seeking volunteers to serve on the Mancos Trails Group. The purpose of the Trails Group is to implement the recommendations from the 2012 Trails Master Plan, to coordinate and perform trail maintenance and other projects, and to promote trails in Mancos and in the Mancos Valley. There are several projects in the planning phases. In addition, volunteers are needed to assist with improvements to Cottonwood Park trails this spring and summer. The next meeting of the Mancos Trails Group is March 16th at 6:00 pm at Mancos Town Hall. Please contact the town for more information.
