LOW-COST RABIES AND DOG LICENSING CLINIC ON APRIL 8th

On Saturday, April 8th, the Mancos Valley Veterinary Hospital is sponsoring a low cost rabies vaccination clinic and town dog licensing event. The event will be held at the vet clinic located at 299 W. Frontage Rd. from 9:00 am to noon. Rabies shots will be provided at a discounted rate and the annual town dog license is $15.00 for dogs that are fixed and $20.00 for dogs that are not neutered or spayed. All dogs in town limits must be licensed.

SPRING TOWN MAINTENANCE

As the weather has warmed up, streets crews are out and about working on infrastructure maintenance throughout town. Road grading and shaping, street sweeping, and flushing of sewer lines are just some of the areas of regular maintenance that staff is working on this month. During the sewer line maintenance this spring, crews are finding build up of FOGs (fats, oils, and grease) and other items that do not belong in the sewer lines. The town reminds residents “Don’t Flush That!” Staff will be continuing the grease trap inspection process with commercial kitchens in town and encourages residents to be cognizant of the substances that are being put down household drains or flushed.

RECRUITING FOR SEASONAL PARKS MAINTENANCE TECHNICIANS

The town will also be advertising this month for two parks seasonal positions. These individuals work approximately 15-25 hours per week and are employed from the beginning of May to October. Pay starts at $11.50/ per hour. Applicants must have a valid driver’s license and be willing to work some weekends. Regular duties include weeding, watering, mowing, trash removal, and other similar duties. Please contact town hall no later than April 21 by 3:00 pm for an application. For further details, please contact town hall.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR TRAIL WORK AT COTTONWOOD PARK

Work days will be held on Saturdays from 8 am until noon on April 22 (Earth Day), May 20 and June 10 to complete projects at Cottonwood Park. Partially funded through a Great Outdoors Colorado Grant, the Cottonwood Park Improvement Project includes widening and improving trail surfaces, building seating areas by the Mancos River, clearing brush, and planting trees. Volunteers of all ages are welcome. Please bring your hand tools (rakes, wheelbarrows, shovels, etc.), gloves, and water.

FILTER MEDIA AT WATER TREATMENT PLANT TO BE REPLACED

Staff will be replacing the filter media at the water treatment plant over the next two weeks. The media consists of multiple layers of stone. fine sand, and anthracite. These graduated layers remove suspended solids, bacteria, and metals and help to purify the water. The town has elected to use garnet, which is used instead of gravel for better filtration. Garnet is heavier, has a higher density and hardness, and will last longer. The project involves removing all of the existing layers of media and replacing it with new layers.
